Five Injured as Truck Crashes into Vehicles on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

No fewer than five people were injured in a multiple-vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday at the Toll Gate section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.

The incident, which happened around 11:35 a.m., involved a truck, six cars and two tricycles, according to the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

Confirming the accident on Monday, TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said a total of 11 persons comprising eight men and three women

were involved in the crash.

He explained that five victims, including three women and two men, sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the remaining occupants escaped without harm.

According to Akinbiyi, three of the injured persons were taken to the General Hospital in Ota for medical attention, while relatives transported the other two victims to separate healthcare facilities.

Preliminary findings by TRACE indicated that excessive speed and mechanical failure were responsible for the accident.

The agency said the crash occurred after a truck bearing registration number TRN 71 XB reportedly developed brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before colliding with several vehicles along the expressway.

Akinbiyi added that emergency responders cleared the scene and evacuated all affected vehicles to restore normal traffic flow on the busy route.

He advised motorists to adhere to speed limits and carry out routine maintenance on their vehicles to prevent avoidable accidents on the roads.
