FCTA Warns Event Centre, Hotel Owners Against Hosting Illegal Organisations

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued a stern warning to owners of event centres, hotels, and other public buildings in Abuja, directing them to stop making their facilities available to illegal organisations or risk losing their property titles.

The warning was contained in a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who made clear that the administration was tightening its oversight of how public and commercial facilities within the territory are used.

The FCTA stated that land allocations in the FCT are strictly meant to support lawful activities, and warned that title documents of any event centre, hotel, or public building found to have hosted gatherings of illegal organisations would be revoked.

The administration added that usage of such facilities would henceforth be closely monitored to ensure they are not exploited by groups whose activities could threaten the peace of the nation’s capital.

Facility owners were specifically urged to verify the legal status of any organisation seeking to use their premises and to satisfy themselves about the purpose of any intended gathering before granting access. The FCTA stressed that proper records of all transactions must be maintained as part of compliance obligations going forward.

Particular attention was drawn to the current political season, with the administration directing owners of event centres and hotels to deal only with leadership of political parties that is duly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission when it comes to party-related bookings.

The directive appears aimed at preventing factional or unrecognised political groups from using commercial venues to organise activities capable of causing disorder.

The FCTA made clear that failure to comply with the directive would result in the outright revocation of title documents, a warning widely seen as a significant deterrent given the value of property in the Federal Capital Territory.
