At Eid, Borno Restricts Movement over Security Concerns
Borno State governments and federal law enforcement agencies have initiated an aggressive security deployment alongside strict movement restrictions to protect national assets and citizens during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The security measures follow an explicit advisory issued by the Nigerian military warning of potential terrorist plots targeting crowded public spaces and festive gatherings across the federation.
In Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum approved a temporary but absolute restriction on human and vehicular movement to prevent security breaches during morning Eid prayers. The Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, confirmed that the restriction takes effect from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, banning the operation of private vehicles, commercial tricycles, and motorcycles across all 27 local government areas.
To streamline access, the state government advised citizens to strictly trek to the Eid grounds closest to their primary residences. Only ambulances, fire service personnel, security agency vehicles, and essential service staff with valid institutional identification are exempted from the lockdown.
Governor Zulum called on parents to monitor their wards and urged residents to use the festive period to pray for permanent stability in the state and the country.
Across the rest of the country, the inspectorate and commands of various security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—have deployed thousands of conventional and undercover operatives.
The tactical deployments are concentrated around sensitive nodes, including:
* Major Eid prayer grounds
* High-traffic recreational centers and public parks
* Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI)
* Vulnerable transport corridors and border access points
The m security posture aims to guarantee public safety, minimize holiday vulnerabilities, and ensure that the multi-day festive break proceeds without disruption from banditry or insurgent activity.
