The United States’ President, Donald Trump has claimed that an agreement to permanently end the war involving Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz has “largely been negotiated” and could be announced soon.

In a post shared on his Truth Social account on Saturday, Trump said he had concluded what he described as a “very good call” with leaders of Gulf countries and other United States allies in the Middle East.

The US president also disclosed that he held a separate conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which he said also went “very well”.

According to Trump, discussions are ongoing on the final aspects of the proposed agreement.

“Final aspects and details of the deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly,” Trump wrote. “In addition to many other elements of the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened.”

Trump’s remarks came amid ongoing diplomatic efforts in Tehran, where mediators involved in negotiations reportedly said progress was being made toward extending the US ceasefire arrangement with Iran by 60 days.

The talks are also expected to establish a framework for further discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.

The development comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to attract global attention due to concerns over regional security, oil supply routes and nuclear diplomacy.
