Nursing Student Found Dead in Imo Apartment
A female student of the College of Nursing Umulogho has been found dead in her apartment in Umuadara, Umulogho, located in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.
The deceased, identified as Wendy Achumba, was reportedly discovered in her off-campus residence on Thursday with severe injuries, including a slit throat, raising suspicion of murder.
Sources in the community said Achumba, who hailed from Ngwa in Abia State, had completed her Midwifery programme and was undergoing a Post Basic course at the institution before her death.
Residents said the victim’s body was found in the apartment during the afternoon, with indications suggesting she died violently.
The discovery reportedly sparked outrage among youths in the area, who confronted police officers that arrived at the scene, temporarily delaying the evacuation of the body.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown, while details surrounding the incident are still unclear.
Reacting to the development, the Imo State Police Command confirmed that an investigation had commenced into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said officers led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported and carried out an initial assessment.
According to him, the body has been deposited in a morgue while security operatives intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
Okoye appealed to residents and students to remain calm, assuring the public that the situation was under control and that authorities were committed to ensuring justice is served.
