Nigerian Troops Arrest Woman Over Alleged ISWAP Logistics Support in Borno
Troops of the 196 Amphibious Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a 50-year-old woman, Kellu Alhaji Abba, for allegedly supplying logistics support to her son, a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), in Borno State.
Security sources said the arrest was carried out during a routine checkpoint operation at the C Company 7 Platoon post in Kukawa Local Government Area at about 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The suspect, said to be a resident of the Lawanti area of Baga in the Lake Chad region, was intercepted while allegedly attempting to transport food supplies and other items to insurgents operating in the Dumba axis.
Counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the development, citing military sources who described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt insurgent logistics networks in the region.
According to the report, the supplies were allegedly intended for her son, identified as Modu Mustapha, who is suspected of playing an active role in insurgent operations within the area.
Items recovered from her at the checkpoint reportedly included food packs, female hijabs believed to be used for concealment or operational disguise, and a wristwatch.
Military authorities said the suspect was immediately taken into custody for interrogation to uncover possible links and identify other members of the insurgent support network.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that investigations are ongoing, noting that troops remain on high alert as part of sustained counter-insurgency operations in the Lake Chad basin.
Security sources added that while the operational environment remains relatively calm, the situation is still considered unpredictable, with troops maintaining active surveillance and patrols across affected areas.
