Police Promise Full Security Support for 2027 Elections in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has given a strong assurance to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it will provide maximum security during the 2027 general elections. This promise aims to ensure that voting in Lagos is peaceful, free, and fair for all residents.
The commitment came after a meeting between police leaders and INEC officials at the police command headquarters in Ikeja.
During the courtesy visit, the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Salami, led the INEC team. He congratulated the new Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, on his appointment and asked for continued support as preparations for the 2027 polls begin. INEC stressed the need for close teamwork with security agencies to build public trust in the election process.
In response, CP Tijani Fatai assured the delegation of the police force’s full readiness to help INEC carry out its duties. He highlighted how important it is for different government bodies to work together to keep peace before, during, and after the elections. The police public relations officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, later shared these details in an official statement.
This assurance is seen as a positive step toward credible elections in Nigeria’s commercial capital. Lagos has a large population and often faces challenges during voting periods, making strong security very important. Many voters will feel more confident knowing that the police are committed to protecting the process.
As the countdown to 2027 begins, this collaboration between the police and INEC sends a clear message. It shows that efforts are already underway to make sure the elections reflect the true will of the people in a safe environment. Residents of Lagos will be watching closely to see how this support plays out in the coming months.
