Tinubu Approves Nigeria’s Hosting of 2026 CAF Awards
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards scheduled for October next year.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced on Tuesday that the President gave the assurance during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, after meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Those present at the meeting included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
According to the federation, the hosting rights will cover both the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony and CAF’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly.
The CAF General Assembly is expected to attract top football administrators from across the continent, including heads of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and other senior football stakeholders.
Nigeria previously hosted the CAF Awards in Lagos in 2023, where several African football stars and officials attended the ceremony.
