Anambra ADC Says Party Growing Despite Obi’s Departure

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, has described the departure of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, from the party as painful, but said the party had moved on and remained focused on strengthening its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Nwobu, who was the ADC deputy governorship candidate in the last Anambra election, made the remarks during a consultative meeting of party leaders held in Awka.

According to him, members of the party in Anambra remained committed despite recent political realignments, adding that the opposition must eventually unite if it hopes to succeed in the 2027 general elections.

He said those who left the ADC for other political platforms, including Obi, were wished well, expressing hope that opposition figures would one day come together again in pursuit of national political change.

Nwobu argued that divisions within opposition parties could weaken their chances in future elections, stressing the need for political actors to prioritise collective success over individual ambition.

He also said there was still room for collaboration among opposition parties before the 2027 elections, noting that alliances could emerge in the coming months.

At the meeting, party leaders disclosed that nine aspirants had obtained nomination forms to contest House of Representatives seats, while six others had picked forms for the Anambra State House of Assembly elections.

Nwobu said the level of interest from aspirants reflected growing confidence in the party’s structure and future.

The party leaders also reaffirmed their support for the ADC national leadership led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, while commending Ralph Nwosu for his role in positioning the party as a platform for opposition coalition efforts.
