SARS No Longer Exists in Any Form, Says AIG Jimoh

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Jimoh has firmly stated that the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) no longer exists in any form.

He made the clarification while addressing concerns about the unit’s possible return. According to him, all former SARS personnel have been reassigned to other units and not regrouped into new squads.

The statement comes amid ongoing public worries about police brutality and the possible re-emergence of SARS-like operations. AIG Jimoh assured Nigerians that the police force has moved on from the controversial unit. He emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to reforms and better service delivery to the public.

Many citizens have welcomed the assurance, as SARS was widely criticised for human rights abuses before it was disbanded in 2020. However, some people remain sceptical and have called for continuous monitoring to ensure that similar units are not quietly revived under different names.

The AIG’s comment is part of efforts by the police leadership to rebuild public trust. He noted that the force is focusing on intelligence-led policing and community relations rather than the old aggressive tactics associated with SARS.

As discussions continue, Nigerians are watching closely to see if the police will fully implement reforms. AIG Jimoh’s declaration aims to put an end to rumours about the return of SARS and reassure the public that the era of the controversial unit is truly over.
