Makinde Will Consult on Choice of Successor, Says Olopoeyan
A prominent political figure in Oyo State, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has stated that Governor Seyi Makinde will not take any decision on his successor without first informing and consulting him.
Olopoeyan made the remark while speaking on emerging political discussions surrounding the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, where attention is gradually shifting toward succession plans within the state’s political landscape.
According to him, the process of selecting a successor to Governor Makinde would involve key consultations with influential stakeholders in the state, stressing that no major decision of such political weight would be taken in isolation. His comment has further intensified political conversations within the state, as various interest groups and aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Governor Makinde, who is currently serving his second term, has in recent times emphasized that succession matters will be handled through broad consultation within the party and among stakeholders, although he has not publicly endorsed any specific candidate.
Political analysts say Olopoeyan’s statement reflects ongoing behind-the-scenes negotiations and power realignments within the Oyo political structure as preparations toward 2027 gradually gather momentum.
Meanwhile, observers note that the succession race remains open, with no officially confirmed preferred candidate from the governor’s camp.
