The Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, Rev. Joseph Hayab, has criticized recent comments made by Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir regarding the 2023 presidential election and the political representation of religious groups in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Hayab countered assertions made by Jingir, who had defended the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2027 elections and argued that Muslims should leverage their demographic strength to pursue political dominance.

In a viral video, Jingir had also referred to non-Muslims using derogatory language while urging Muslim voters to consolidate their numerical advantage.

Hayab rejected the cleric’s framing, pointing out that the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima secured victory in 2023 with crucial support from Christian-majority states and communities across the country.

He stressed that claiming the current administration was put in power exclusively by Muslim voters misrepresents the political reality and ignores the electoral contributions of Nigerian Christians who sought unity and constitutional fairness.

Furthermore, the Christian leader condemned the use of divisive and derogatory terminology by religious leaders when addressing citizens of other faiths, warning that such rhetoric undermines national unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence ahead of future political cycles.
