World Bank to Build ₦300 Million Livestock Feed Laboratory at MOUAU

The World Bank has approved the construction of a ₦300 million livestock feed laboratory at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia State.

This project is expected to boost research and development in animal production and livestock farming in Nigeria. The new laboratory will serve as a modern centre for producing and testing high-quality animal feed.

The initiative aims to address challenges faced by livestock farmers, such as poor feed quality and limited access to modern technology. When completed, the laboratory will help improve the nutrition of animals, increase productivity, and support the growth of the livestock industry. It will also provide opportunities for students and researchers to carry out advanced studies in agriculture.

This development is seen as a major boost to Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Experts believe the laboratory will reduce the country’s dependence on imported animal feed and encourage local production. Farmers in the South East region and beyond are expected to benefit greatly from the project.

The World Bank’s support highlights the importance of investment in agricultural research and infrastructure.

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike is already known for its focus on practical farming solutions, and this new facility will further strengthen its capacity.

Many stakeholders have welcomed the news with excitement. The project is expected to create jobs during construction and provide long-term benefits to the education and agriculture sectors.

Nigerians hope this partnership with the World Bank will lead to more similar projects that can transform farming across the country.
