Abia Governor Approves NOUN Study Centre, Urges Embrace of Distance Learning

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has approved the establishment of a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre in the state.

This decision is aimed at expanding access to higher education for residents who may not be able to attend regular universities. The governor believes this will give many people the opportunity to improve their education.

Governor Otti urged Nigerians to take full advantage of distance learning programmes. He noted that open and distance education offers a flexible way for people to study while working or handling other responsibilities.

According to him, this mode of learning is key to increasing the number of educated citizens in the country.

The approval of the NOUN study centre is seen as a positive step towards improving education in Abia State. Many residents, especially working-class adults and those in rural areas, are expected to benefit greatly from this development. It will bring university education closer to the people without the need to travel far.

This move aligns with efforts to make education more accessible and inclusive across Nigeria. Distance learning helps remove barriers such as age, location, and financial constraints that often stop people from pursuing higher studies.

The governor’s support is likely to encourage more institutions to expand similar programmes.

As the new study centre prepares to begin operations, many people in Abia State have welcomed the development. It is hoped that this initiative will produce more graduates and contribute to the overall growth and development of the state and the nation. Governor Alex Otti’s action demonstrates a strong commitment to education and human capital development.
