Atiku to Visit United States to Spotlight Nigeria’s Deepening Internal Crisis

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has announced his plans to travel to the United States for critical engagements with policy and institutional stakeholders, aiming to draw global attention to Nigeria’s worsening national crisis.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku revealed that the high-level discussions will focus primarily on the country’s severe security, economic, and governance challenges.

Detailing the purpose of the trip, the statement highlighted that Nigeria is currently grappling with widespread and unchecked insecurity. The former Vice President pointed to persistent violence across the North-West, North-East, and parts of the Middle Belt, alongside a disturbing surge in kidnappings and violent crimes nationwide.

He argued that these escalating issues reflect a systemic breakdown in governance, leaving the state unable to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

In addition to security concerns, Atiku expressed alarm over the country’s economic decline, citing out-of-control inflation, severe currency depreciation, and a massive drop in purchasing power. He attributed these hardships directly to policy inconsistencies and a lack of clear economic direction under the current administration. Furthermore, Atiku voiced deep concern over the erosion of democratic governance and the loss of public trust in core national institutions.

While anticipating criticism from the government regarding his international tour, the former Vice President maintained that seeking global engagement on domestic issues is not unpatriotic. He emphasized that discussing Nigeria’s challenges abroad is crucial for the country’s strategic international standing. He urged the federal government to urgently reassess its priorities, while calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue demanding accountability from their leaders.
