Taraba APC Leaders Purchase Governorship Form for David Kente
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State have purchased the party’s governorship nomination form for chieftain David Sabo Kente, urging him to contest in the 2027 elections.
The form was presented to Kente on Saturday at his residence in Jalingo by a delegation led by former APC State Secretary Godwin Villannah, according to a statement issued by Kente’s campaign organisation.
Villannah said the decision followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders and was aimed at strengthening internal democracy while positioning the party for electoral success.
“This gesture reflects our commitment to internal democracy and our belief that Chief David Sabo Kente possesses the leadership capacity to move Taraba State forward,” he said. “We consulted widely, and there was a strong consensus among stakeholders that he should step into the race.”
The move mirrors a growing trend within the APC, where supporters and political blocs are purchasing nomination forms for preferred candidates ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Responding, Kente accepted the nomination form and expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, describing the development as both humbling and a call to service.
“I am deeply humbled by this show of support and trust. After wide consultations and reflection, I have decided to accept the nomination form,” he said.
Kente pledged to run an inclusive campaign and called on party members and residents of Taraba State to unite behind a shared vision for development.
“I call on all members of our great party and the good people of Taraba State to join hands with me as we work towards building a more inclusive and prosperous state,” he added.
Outlining his priorities, Kente said his ambition would focus on people-oriented policies designed to deliver tangible improvements in governance and community welfare.
“Our focus will be on policies that uplift our people, strengthen our communities and ensure that governance delivers real impact,” he said.
The development signals early political realignments in Taraba as parties and stakeholders begin to position potential candidates ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
