Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that right-back, Achraf Hakimi will miss their Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich after sustaining a right thigh injury during Tuesday’s breathtaking 5-4 victory at the Parc des Princes.
The Moroccan international soldiered through the closing stages of the match visibly struggling, with PSG unable to make further substitutions at that point. Further medical tests on Wednesday confirmed what many had feared, a muscle fibre tear that will rule him out for several weeks, dealing Luis Enrique a significant blow as the reigning European champions look to defend their title.
Hakimi’s absence is a major concern for PSG given the role he has played all season. The full-back contributed an assist in Tuesday’s first leg and has been directly involved in 11 goals across all competitions this campaign, underlining just how integral he is to Enrique’s system.
With Hakimi sidelined, young midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery is expected to be deployed at right-back for the trip to Munich on May 6, where PSG travel holding a slender one-goal advantage in the tie. Second-choice goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier will also miss the return leg through injury.
Beyond the second leg, Hakimi’s absence could stretch into the Ligue 1 run-in, with a crucial title clash against Lens on May 13 also now in doubt. His fitness ahead of the World Cup with Morocco will likewise be a concern for fans of the national team. For now, PSG’s priority is navigating the return leg in Germany without one of their most important players and booking a place in the final in Budapest.
