Otti Counsels Reconciliation as Labour Party Inaugurates new NWC
Governor Alex Otti has urged the newly inaugurated National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party to prioritise reconciliation among aggrieved members to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
Mr Otti made the call on Tuesday in Umuahia during the inauguration of the NWC led by Nenadi Usman.
He appealed to dissatisfied members to remain open to dialogue, urging them to engage constructively with the party’s leadership as it works to resolve internal differences.
The governor stressed that unity within the party is critical, warning that divisions could weaken its chances in upcoming elections, which he described as a numbers-driven process.
He also expressed confidence in Ms Usman’s leadership, citing her background and pledging full support from party stakeholders to ensure the success of her administration.
In her post-election remarks, Ms Usman assured party members that the new leadership would meet their expectations and deliver on its mandate.
She called for cooperation across all levels, noting that rebuilding and strengthening the party would require collective effort.
Speaking on behalf of other elected officials, National Secretary Iheanacho Obioma thanked members for entrusting the new leadership with a four-year mandate, pledging to reposition the party for future electoral success.
He said the convention, themed “Labour Party Rising, United for Victory,” reflected the party’s commitment to unity and progress, while appreciating contributors and organisers who ensured a smooth exercise.
Meanwhile, the party lifted the suspension of 26 members, including Hilda Dokubo, who was elected National Women Leader, in a move seen as part of efforts to foster inclusiveness and cohesion within its ranks.
