Anthony Joshua Sets July Ring Return Against Kristian Prenga

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has announced his return to the ring, with a scheduled bout against Kristian Prenga set for July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This fight marks his first appearance since a tragic car accident in Nigeria last December, which claimed the lives of two of his close friends just over a week after his last competitive match.

In a statement regarding the upcoming event, the 36-year-old Briton described this period as a time of consolidation and rebuilding. Joshua emphasized that the bout against Prenga is a necessary next step in his professional journey, especially after enduring personal loss and recovering from shoulder and elbow surgeries that sidelined him following his last fight, a fifth-round knockout victory against Jake Paul.

His opponent, 35-year-old Kristian Prenga, arrives with a professional record of 20 wins all by knockout out of 21 fights. While his knockout power is noted, critics and boxing observers point out that he has yet to test his skills against an opponent of Joshua’s class and experience, making this a pivotal test for the British heavyweight as he seeks to regain momentum.

Anticipation is also building around reports of a long-awaited clash between Joshua and his domestic rival, Tyson Fury, which could take place later this year. Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh has fueled these discussions by claiming on social media that a deal for the fight is signed, with various reports suggesting the two heavyweights could collide in the fourth quarter of 2026.

For Joshua, the upcoming July fight is more than just a comeback; it is a platform to prove his readiness for higher-profile challenges. As negotiations for the Fury fight continue to develop, the boxing community remains focused on whether Joshua can successfully navigate his return to the ring and reclaim his position among the sport’s elite contenders.
