The Senior Pastor of Victory Life Bible Church International, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, has criticised Nigeria’s political culture. He said the celebration of questionable wealth is discouraging creative entrepreneurs and talented people from contributing to national development.

Achudume spoke during a thanksgiving service marking the 50th anniversary of the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abeokuta. He argued that politics is widely seen as a quick route to riches rather than a call to public service.

According to him, individuals who amass wealth through questionable political means are often celebrated instead of being held accountable. He stressed that the country needs more people who use their talents and ideas to solve problems, build businesses and inspire others.

The cleric also condemned what he described as declining societal values, including the promotion of indecent dressing and the overemphasis on social media popularity. He urged Nigerians to make responsible choices and pursue lives defined by purpose and positive contributions.

During the event, Achudume was honoured with the Ogun NUJ Golden Jubilee Ambassador Award. The state NUJ chairman, Wale Olanrewaju, described him as a social crusader who consistently supports journalism and speaks out on issues of public interest.
