Badenoch Condemns Nigerian Scammer Remark As Racist Attack
British Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch has condemned a former aide to Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage for calling her a Nigerian scammer, describing the comment as a racist attack.
Badenoch said the attacks which referenced her Nigerian background would not work, accusing Reform figures of using her race to improve their political standing.
She spoke on Thursday during an interview on ITV Good Morning Britain after Raheem Kassam, a former senior aide to Farage, targeted her in a series of posts on X.
Kassam had described Badenoch as an unrelenting scammer who uses her Nigerian background to advance her career when it suits her, and wrote in another post, how are people still falling for this Nigerian scammer, do not give her your credit card number and bank account details.
Badenoch responded that it shows the sort of people they are and that they spend more time attacking her than discussing how to improve lives.
She said, I think they think that maybe using my race is a way for them to improve their standing. Britain is not a racist country and because it is not a racist country, their racist attacks and using my race as an attack form is not going to work.
She also dismissed Robert Jenrick, the Tory to Reform defector who refused to condemn the remarks, saying he is not one of her MPs and is now Nigel Farage problem.
Nigel Farage was also asked about the comment on BBC Breakfast and said he did not think saying somebody grew up in Nigeria is racist, though he admitted the comment was over the top. Robert Jenrick also declined to call the remarks racist, saying they may be unpleasant or rude but it is not his place to police everybody tweets.
