Motorboy Killed, Three Injured in Ogun Lone Crash

A motorboy was killed and three others, including the truck driver, sustained injuries when a cement-laden trailer crashed along Mile 6, Ajebo Road, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement. He said the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. at Agbedejobi village after the trailer suffered brake failure while descending a bridge.

According to Akinbiyi, the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a car ahead. The trailer rammed into a ditch, veered onto a railway track and spilled its contents into a nearby bush. One of the motorboys died at the scene, while another sustained a broken arm. The driver and a fourth occupant also suffered varying degrees of injuries.

“In view of the impact of the crash, one of the motorboys lost his life on the spot, while another had a broken arm, and the remaining two, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Akinbiyi said.

The deceased and the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for medical attention. TRACE officials and the police carried out the rescue operation. Akinbiyi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured, and urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before embarking on journeys and to avoid overloading.

The incident adds to a series of recent road crashes involving heavy vehicles in Ogun and neighbouring states, many of which have been linked to mechanical faults, speeding or loss of control.
