Davido Honours Late Son Ifeanyi With Emotional Message on What Would Have Been His Seventh Birthday

Afrobeats star, Davido has paid tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, on what would have been the boy’s seventh birthday, telling him that he and the boy’s mother, Chioma, still miss and love him.

The singer shared the message on his social media pages on Tuesday, October 20. “Happy birthday son … Me and mommy miss and love you! Keep flying high,” he wrote. The short note drew emotional reactions from fans, many of whom said the loss still weighs on them years later.

Chioma also responded in a quiet way. She reposted on her own Instagram page a birthday tribute she had written for Ifeanyi in 2022, the day he turned three.

Ifeanyi was born on October 20, 2019. He died on October 31, 2022, less than two weeks after his third birthday, when he drowned in a swimming pool at Davido’s home on Banana Island, Lagos. The Lagos State Police Command later said an autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of death. The tragedy led to an outpouring of grief from fans, celebrities and public figures across Nigeria and beyond.

Davido has regularly marked important dates connected to his son since his death, and this year’s tribute continues that practice. Many Nigerians recalled the child’s death as one of the most painful the country has experienced, while others wrote that he would have been a “big boy” by now.
