Lions Club Feeds 1,000 Destitutes in Lagos on World Food Day
Members of Lions International Multiple District 404 Nigeria distributed food packs to 1,000 destitute persons at the Oko Baba Destitute Village in Lagos on Friday. The outreach was organised to mark this year’s World Food Day.
The Multiple District Council Chairperson, Adekunle Adedipe, said the exercise aligned with one of the group’s core goals of feeding the hungry. He noted that the world produces enough food, yet many people still go without meals because of unequal distribution and problems in the food supply chain.
The food packs given to the beneficiaries contained raw rice, beans and garri. Chairperson of the event, Lamidi Tajudeen, said the gesture was meant to ease the burden on struggling families and give them hope through practical support.
Guest speaker Olakulehin Oladapo stressed that food security should be treated as part of overall physical security. He argued that the main challenge is not production but difficulties along the agricultural value chain, including poor storage, climate effects and high costs of inputs.
Past council chairman Kola Oyekanmi called on the government to implement existing policies that address problems in the food system. The event was held under the global theme “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” highlighting the need for practical solutions to reduce hunger.
