Taiwo Oyedele Highlights President Tinubu’s Two Rare Leadership Qualities
Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has highlighted two rare attributes that President Bola Tinubu possesses among democratic leaders across the world.
Oyedele said the attributes include the willingness to do the right thing even when unpopular and a strong understanding of the economy, including respect for the independence of monetary policy.
The tax reforms chairman made the remarks while assessing the administration policy direction and economic reforms, noting that the qualities set the President apart in global democratic leadership.
According to Oyedele, the willingness to take difficult but necessary decisions, even at the risk of public backlash, demonstrates a commitment to long term national interest over short term political gains.
He explained that such courage is uncommon among leaders who often avoid tough reforms due to fear of losing popularity.
The second attribute, according to Oyedele, is the President’s deep understanding of economic management, particularly the importance of allowing the Central Bank and monetary authorities to operate independently.
Oyedele noted that respect for the independence of monetary policy is critical for restoring investor confidence, stabilising the macro economy and attracting foreign investment.
The remarks were made at an international engagement where the Nigerian delegation was present, with discussions focused on foreign investment and economic prospects.
Participants at the forum were seen deliberating on Nigeria investment climate, fiscal reforms and measures being implemented to make the economy more competitive.
Oyedele has consistently defended the administration fiscal and tax reforms, arguing that the measures are designed to broaden the revenue base, reduce burden on vulnerable citizens and businesses, and create a more equitable tax system.
He maintained that the reforms, though initially challenging, would in the long run strengthen public finance, improve ease of doing business and position Nigeria as a preferred destination for investment.
The statement has generated reactions on social media, with many users commending the administration resolve to implement structural reforms while others continue to debate the immediate impact on cost of living and businesses.
