NAF Engages Igbokoda Residents Over Water Concerns Amid Aircraft Recovery

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has met with community leaders and residents of Igbokoda, Ondo State, following concerns that ongoing aircraft recovery operations could affect the community’s water source.

The engagement was led by the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal MC Ekwueme, who acknowledged the concerns and assured residents that the service would work to address the issues raised.

The Air Officer Commanding also commended the community for its patience and cooperation while recovery operations continued under challenging conditions.

According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, recovery personnel have made progress at the site despite difficult terrain and underwater conditions.

Several pumping machines have been deployed to drain water from the area around the crash site, with the aim of gaining access to the main wreckage, which remains submerged and deeply embedded in the riverbed.

The statement noted that the operation required sustained effort, specialised technical assistance and careful coordination to ensure that recovery work proceeded safely and effectively.

The NAF acknowledged the grief of the victims’ families and the concerns of Nigerians awaiting further developments, adding that personnel remained committed to accessing the wreckage while prioritising their safety and preserving the dignity of the victims.

Beyond the recovery exercise, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) reaffirmed the service’s commitment to supporting the bereaved families.

The statement said all approved welfare entitlements would be processed, including benevolent funds, scholarships for eligible children and other benefits.

It added that the NAF had continued to engage with affected families and established a dedicated helpline at its headquarters to provide timely and appropriate information.

The service also acknowledged the environmental concerns raised by Igbokoda residents, assuring them that the issues would be addressed through appropriate channels.

The NAF pledged to sustain recovery efforts, provide support to the bereaved families and issue verified updates as significant developments emerge.
