Nigerian-British actor, John Boyega has announced the birth of his first child with his wife, American actress Lashontae “Tae” Heckard. 

The Star Wars star shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing that the baby boy actually arrived some time ago.

The post included photos from the pregnancy, with Heckard’s baby bump visible, as well as a video of Boyega cradling the newborn. He thanked fans for the well wishes the couple had received and joked that he was back to feeding “this big baby.” He also told followers that his sister is due to give birth soon and asked them to send her good wishes too.

The announcement comes shortly after Boyega told The Guardian that he had been secretly married for almost two years, ahead of his BBC documentary, Damilola: The Untold Story. He did not name his wife at the time. Heckard publicly confirmed the news by commenting on his post to say she sends love and blessings to her “Blessing,” and she has changed her Instagram bio to “Tae Boyega.”

In that interview, Boyega said the couple had a small ceremony but would still love a bigger wedding celebration down the line, possibly a traditional Nigerian one. He explained that they prefer to celebrate a marriage that is already established rather than its beginning.

Boyega is 34. Heckard is widely reported to be 48, though she has not confirmed her age publicly. She is best known for her roles in the BET series The Game and the film ATL. The baby is Boyega’s first child and Heckard’s second, as she also has an older son from a previous relationship, whom Boyega has described as his stepson.
