Israel Fires Artillery Rounds Near Tal Krum After Incursion Targeting Shepherds in Syria’s Quneitra

Israeli forces fired three artillery rounds at an area near Tal Krum in Syria’s Quneitra countryside on Wednesday, according to Syria’s Al-Ikhbariah TV. No information on casualties or damage was immediately available.

The shelling followed an incursion into the Mazraat al-Hanoot area earlier in the day. Syrian media reported that a patrol of eight Israeli military vehicles drove local shepherds away from the area and opened fire with live ammunition on a civilian water tanker. No injuries were reported in that incident either.

The latest actions fit a well-established pattern in southern Syria, especially in Quneitra and Daraa provinces, where Israeli forces have carried out raids, searches, detentions and artillery fire. A Syrian human rights group, the Sijil centre, recorded 267 Israeli violations inside Syrian territory in August alone, and 1,752 since the start of the year.

Activity picked up again after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz visited the Mount Hermon area on September 9.

Israel has stepped up its military operations in Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, striking military sites and widening its presence in the buffer zone of the occupied Golan Heights. Damascus has repeatedly condemned the incursions as violations of Syrian sovereignty and demanded that Israel withdraw to the lines set by the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. The two sides are also taking part in US-mediated talks on security arrangements and on restoring that agreement.
