Sowore Reveals Adeboye’s Message During Recent Meeting

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has recounted his recent meeting with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, revealing that the cleric told him he regularly prayed for him and believed he would triumph.

Sowore said Adeboye also told him that he considered his ways pure during their conversation at the church’s national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

The activist shared the experience during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, about a week after attending the RCCG’s National Thanksgiving Service.

Recounting the encounter, Sowore said Adeboye recognised him and told him that he had been praying for him consistently.

According to Sowore, the cleric said he knew him well, prayed for him regularly, believed his ways were pure and was confident he would triumph.

Sowore explained that after the thanksgiving service, he was initially asked to wait near Adeboye’s car. He was later informed that the cleric wanted to meet him in the church’s vestry.

He said their discussion also revisited their first encounter in 1996, when he approached Adeboye for support for a campaign against cultism in Nigerian universities.

The AAC presidential candidate recalled that he visited the cleric after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme to seek assistance in addressing cultism on university campuses.

Sowore said Adeboye supported the initiative and directed that ₦10,000 be given to him to fund the campaign.

He recalled that the money was used to campaign against cultism in universities.

Sowore added that during their recent meeting, Adeboye asked for his permission to pray for him. He agreed but told the cleric that he would keep his eyes open during the prayer.

He said Adeboye prayed for him, after which they both stood up and laughed.

When asked whether their conversation included a discussion about giving his life to Christ, Sowore said it did not, explaining that he was not involved in organised religion.

He also clarified that he did not discuss his presidential ambition with Adeboye, describing their encounter as a personal conversation. He said the cleric’s surprise at their first meeting nearly three decades earlier was part of what made the exchange memorable.
