Kebbi Governor Donates ₦100m to Attack Victims, Approves Army Forward Operating Base
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has donated ₦100 million to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by insecurity in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area and approved the establishment of a Nigerian Army Forward Operating Base to strengthen security in the area.
The governor announced the intervention during a sympathy visit to Wasagu Chiefdom following recent bandit attacks that forced residents to flee their communities.
Idris said the visit was intended to express solidarity with affected families and demonstrate his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that the intervention was not politically motivated.
He acknowledged the security challenges confronting the country but assured residents that his government was taking steps to improve safety and restore normalcy in affected communities.
The governor urged residents to remain hopeful, maintain unity and support efforts to restore peace. He also appealed for peaceful coexistence, warning political supporters against violence, intimidation and the destruction of campaign posters and billboards.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, disclosed that the governor had been advocating the deployment of additional military formations to strengthen security operations in the area.
The commissioner commended the governor’s intervention and stressed the need for a stronger security presence to protect vulnerable communities and enable displaced residents to return home safely.
He also criticised former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over what he described as insufficient efforts to address insecurity in Kebbi State during his time in office.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional council and residents, the Chief of Wasagu, Mukhtar Adamu, thanked the governor for the financial assistance and visit, expressing hope that peace would return to the affected communities.
The donation and approval of the military base are part of efforts to address the humanitarian consequences of repeated attacks and improve security in the area.
Displaced families are awaiting improved security conditions that would allow them to return safely to their homes and resume their normal activities.
