Michael and Cecilia Ibru University Moves Against Kila, Removes Him From Website, Over Alleged Fake Professorship

The Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, MCIU, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, has deleted all references to its Pro-Chancellor, Anthony Kila, from its website following a PREMIUM TIMES investigation that exposed him as a fake professor.

Checks on the university’s website around 7 p.m. on Monday showed that Mr. Kila’s name, profile and photographs had been removed, leaving no trace of him on the website.

Mr. Kila, who has served as the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council since August 2025, previously had his name, profile and photographs published prominently on the institution’s website alongside those of the proprietress, Cecilia Ibru, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyinka Fuwape.

The university is yet to issue a public statement on the investigation or the removal. The Vice-Chancellor, Mrs Fuwape, had earlier told PREMIUM TIMES that the institution would soon respond to the questions raised by the report.

PREMIUM TIMES had in its investigation reported that Mr Kila had for years been publicly presented as a professor and as a “Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development” despite no evidence that any recognised university awarded him the rank.

When contacted, Mr. Kila told the newspaper that the European Centre for Advanced and Professional Studies, ECAPS, based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, awarded him the professorship in 2016.

However, the newspaper said searches at the UK Companies House, Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission, and online platforms showed no evidence of the existence of the institution, including a website, physical address, or alumni records.

The European Education and Culture Executive Agency, which manages the European Union’s Jean Monnet Actions, also disowned Mr Kila’s affiliation with the Jean Monnet programme.

Meanwhile, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has reportedly constituted a team to investigate Mr Kila following the allegations, particularly over whether any official benefit was derived from the professorial title.

Mr Kila has rejected the description of him as a “fake professor,” maintaining that he holds the title and that his documents will speak for themselves. He said he has instructed his lawyers to review the publication.
