Adams Equaliser Earns Nigeria 3-3 Draw with Russia
Nigeria came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Russia in a friendly at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday.
Kelechi Iheanacho put the Super Eagles ahead in the 10th minute, a strike from about 21 yards set up by Abdullahi Bewene. Russia levelled through Lechi Sadulaev in the 30th minute and went in front in first-half stoppage time when Matvey Kislyak scored. Aleksey Miranchuk made it 3-1 in the 54th minute.
Eric Chelle had already brought on Akor Adams and Abubakar Umar for Michael Stephen and Iheanacho at half-time. Peter Edokpolor pulled one back in the 78th minute, a right-footed finish after a break. Adams equalised in the 94th minute, also from a break, with Umar Abubakar the provider. His shot from the centre of the box went into the top left corner.
Russia had more of the ball and more shots. Nigeria had eight attempts and still left with a point. Cards went to Ivan Oblyakov and Sadulaev for Russia, and to Chibby Nwoko and Abdullahi Umar for Nigeria. Nikola Dabanovic of Montenegro refereed.
Russia had beaten Iran 2-0 and Namibia 6-0 in their previous friendlies. The draw is Nigeria’s first result of this window.
