Keyamo Accuses Opposition of Propaganda Stunt Ahead of 2027
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has accused the opposition of staging poster-destruction videos as a propaganda stunt to discredit the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
He made the claim in a post on his X handle.
Keyamo shared a video of a man he described as a sponsored opposition thug tearing down APC posters while brandishing a weapon. He said the incident was not spontaneous but deliberately planned, with a camera set up to record and circulate the footage. He added that similar staged acts were occurring in some parts of the country.
According to the minister, the aim is to create a false impression of widespread public anger against President Bola Tinubu. He noted that one individual does not represent the views of Nigeria’s more than 93 million registered voters. Keyamo also accused sections of the media of double standards for failing to condemn the act while giving it subtle praise.
He contrasted the video with an incident in Lagos the previous week, where a few people were seen covering an opposition party’s posters with those of the President. Keyamo said that episode was widely branded as thuggery by the ruling party and amplified as a threat to democracy.
The minister stressed that he was not calling on APC supporters to retaliate. He said the opposition’s strategy was to make the ruling party appear unelectable as a way of rejecting an expected defeat in 2027. He urged the international community to take note of what he described as the actions of a disorganised opposition.
