Kwara Police Charge Students On Vigilance As Safe Schools Programme Donates Buses, CCTV
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has urged students across the state to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around their schools.
Adekimi gave the charge in Ilorin during an intervention programme organised by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) under its Safe Schools Initiative.
The event saw the donation of buses and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to selected schools as part of efforts to strengthen security in and around learning environments.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner charged students to embrace the security principle of “If you see something, say something,” urging them to report strange movements or activities to teachers, parents, or security agencies.
He also warned students to shun social vices and other activities capable of threatening their safety, education and future, stressing the need for discipline and responsible conduct.
According to the organisers, the intervention is aimed at improving security awareness and infrastructure in schools through collaboration between the police, communities and educational institutions.
The convener of the programme, Mallam Sulyman Yerima Sulu Gambari, a retired principal officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), commended the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative.
He urged beneficiary schools to properly maintain the facilities and ensure they are used for their intended purposes.
Also speaking, the representative of the National President of the PCRC, Alhaji Uthman Jagunma, described the donation as a positive step towards protecting children and improving the learning environment in Kwara State.
The Safe Schools Programme is a nationwide initiative of the Police and the PCRC aimed at preventing attacks on schools, particularly those in vulnerable and rural communities, through volunteer mobilization, community engagement and deployment of surveillance technology.
