President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Mrs Oluremi Debbie Olowu, pioneer Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on her 80th birthday.

Tinubu praised Olowu for her contributions to public service and humanitarian work, describing her as a lawyer, community leader and nation-builder whose career has been marked by commitment to helping others.

The President’s message was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu particularly highlighted Olowu’s tenure as NEMA’s Director-General between 1999 and 2002, noting that she led the agency during an important period of its development.

According to the President, Olowu played a role in moving NEMA beyond a primarily relief-focused structure towards a more organised emergency and humanitarian institution.

He also commended her for her interventions, advocacy and leadership, saying her efforts had provided assistance to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

Tinubu further acknowledged Olowu’s achievements as a woman who combined professional knowledge with leadership, integrity and concern for vulnerable people.

The President prayed for continued blessings, strength, good health, fulfilment and happiness for the former NEMA chief as she marks the milestone birthday.
