Rejoin APC, Traditional Rulers Appeal to Former Agege Council Chairman
Traditional rulers and community leaders in Agege and Orile-Agege areas of Lagos State have appealed to former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, to reconsider his departure from the All Progressives Congress and return to the party.
The appeal was made during a peace meeting convened to address concerns over political developments in the area ahead of the 2027 general elections. Community stakeholders expressed worries that growing political tensions could threaten the peace and stability of the locality.
The meeting followed the defection of Egunjobi and another politician, Azeez Yusuf, from the APC to the Allied Peoples Movement, where both emerged as candidates for seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders and representatives of various community groups urged political actors and their supporters to embrace dialogue and avoid actions capable of causing unrest.
They stressed the importance of preserving the peace that has existed in the communities and called on all parties involved in the political disagreement to place the interests of residents above partisan considerations.
Religious leaders who attended the meeting also appealed for calm, urging politicians to pursue their ambitions peacefully and avoid rhetoric or actions that could lead to violence.
Community stakeholders maintained that political contests should not undermine unity, security and development within the area, expressing hope that ongoing engagements would help ease tensions and strengthen peaceful coexistence among residents.
