Tinubu Government Does Not Need 4,000 Influencers to Publicise Achievements, Says Mumuni
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Abayomi Mumuni, has said the President Bola Tinubu administration does not need to engage 4,000 social media influencers to communicate its achievements to Nigerians.
Mumuni made the comment while reacting to the recent proposal by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to mobilise 4,000 influencers to promote the Federal Government’s projects and policies.
Umahi had said the proposed network would help the administration communicate directly with Nigerians, particularly young people, and counter criticism of the government on social media.
However, Mumuni argued that the administration’s performance should speak for itself rather than relying heavily on influencers to shape public perception.
He said the government should focus on delivering projects and policies with measurable benefits to citizens, adding that visible achievements would naturally generate public attention.
Mumuni maintained that Nigerians should be able to assess the administration based on developments in areas such as infrastructure, the economy and other sectors without the need for a large network of paid or organised influencers.
He also urged government officials to strengthen direct communication with citizens and provide clear information about projects being executed across the country.
The APC chieftain said effective communication remains important, but insisted that the government’s resources should be directed towards programmes capable of producing tangible benefits for Nigerians.
His comments came amid discussions within the governing party and government circles over how best to communicate the administration’s record ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The debate followed Umahi’s announcement that the Federal Government was considering a 4,000-member social media influencer network to showcase its infrastructure projects and explain its policies to the public.
