President Bola Tinubu has charged newly commissioned military officers to uphold the Constitution, protect Nigerians and demonstrate discipline, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

Tinubu, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, gave the charge on Saturday through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, who represented him at the Combined Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.

The ceremony marked the commissioning of cadets from the 73 Regular Course, Short Service Course 49 (Army), Direct Short Service Course 34 (Air Force) and Branch Commission Course 3 (Air Force).

Addressing the officers, the President said their training had prepared them for the responsibilities and demands associated with military service.

“The nation is counting on you,” Tinubu told the newly commissioned officers, urging them to uphold the values of discipline, professionalism, courage and integrity.

He reminded the officers that their responsibilities extended beyond military duties to the protection of the nation and its citizens in accordance with the Constitution.

Tinubu also commended the NDA for continually updating its training programmes to reflect the changing nature of modern warfare and emerging security challenges.

He highlighted the Academy’s increased emphasis on counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, technological innovation and international partnerships.

The President urged the institution to maintain its pursuit of excellence and continue producing officers capable of responding effectively to evolving security threats.

He further charged the newly commissioned officers to uphold the professional standards of the Armed Forces and remain committed to the principles of honour and selfless service.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and other service chiefs.

Other senior government and military officials, alongside Presidents and Coordinators of various Officers’ Wives Associations, were also present at the event.

The commissioning formally marked the beginning of the officers’ careers in the Nigerian Armed Forces as they take on responsibilities in service to the country.
