A six-year-old pupil who went missing during a flood in Anambra State has been found dead.

The child, Success Ezenwafor, was the only person unaccounted for after rescue efforts on Tuesday.

The incident occurred along Nibo-Isiagu Road in Awka, the state capital, when several people were trapped by floodwaters. Police and local officials rescued seven other children and two adults from the scene.

The Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Chinedu Okafor, confirmed the recovery of the boy’s body in a statement on Wednesday.

He said he had taken part in the initial rescue operation and expressed sadness over the loss.

Okafor offered his condolences to the family and prayed that they would find the strength to cope with the tragedy. He urged residents to exercise extreme caution during heavy rainfall and to avoid flood-prone areas.

The other eight children and two adults who were rescued are receiving medical attention and responding to treatment. The deceased pupil, who attended UNIZIK Primary School, was buried the same day in his hometown of Ekwulobia.
