The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a six-hour scheduled power outage in parts of Abuja on Wednesday, September 23, to enable preventive maintenance on a major power transformer.

The company said the maintenance exercise will be carried out on a 100MVA transformer and associated switchgear at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN said its engineers would conduct routine preventive checks between 10:00am and 4:00pm.

The planned maintenance is expected to affect electricity supply to customers in Wuse Zones 1–7, the Sheraton Hotel area, Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and adjoining areas.

According to TCN, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to customers within the affected areas throughout the maintenance period.

The company apologised to electricity consumers for the disruption, describing the outage as necessary for routine maintenance.

TCN said the exercise is part of its ongoing efforts to improve the reliability of the national transmission network.
