Lagos Police Commissioner Fatai Calls for Greater Cooperation in Crime Prevention
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Tijani, has urged residents to work closely with security agencies to combat crime and maintain peace across communities in the state.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ security meeting, the police chief stressed that effective policing cannot be achieved without the active participation and support of residents.
He described security as a collective responsibility, noting that members of the public play a vital role in providing timely information that can help prevent criminal activities before they occur.
Tijani encouraged residents to remain vigilant, know the people living within their neighbourhoods and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.
The commissioner also expressed concern over the involvement of some youths in cultism, hooliganism and other criminal activities, calling on parents, community leaders and stakeholders to play more active roles in guiding young people.
He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, community associations and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with law enforcement agencies in order to sustain peace and security.
According to him, stronger cooperation between residents and security agencies would improve intelligence gathering and enhance efforts to tackle emerging security challenges across the state.
The police commissioner further assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while emphasising the need for continuous dialogue between communities and security agencies.
He maintained that maintaining a safe environment requires the combined efforts of government, security personnel and members of the public working together toward a common goal of preventing crime and promoting public safety.
