A chemical engineer, Isa Bello, has accused three police officers of extorting ₦155,000 from his younger brother on the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway.

The victim, Abdul Rasheed Isa Bello, is a 400-level Civil Engineering student of Ahmadu Bello University currently on internship in Abuja.

According to the elder brother, the student was travelling to Zaria on Tuesday when he was stopped near the Kaduna State border toll gate by the three officers. Despite identifying himself as a university student, he was ordered out of the vehicle and questioned.

Only one of the officers wore a name tag identifying him as Mohammed Ibrahim. The officers initially demanded ₦200,000. After the student explained that he was an unemployed intern, they detained him until he contacted his family for help.

The family raised and transferred ₦155,000 to an account provided by the officers before the student was allowed to continue his journey. A bank transfer receipt showing the recipient details and timestamp has been shared as evidence.

Isa Bello has called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the incident, identify the officers involved, hold them accountable and ensure the immediate refund of the money. As of the latest report, neither the FCT nor Kaduna State Police Commands had responded to the allegation.
