First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has presented ₦20 million to Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, the recent winner of the King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Saudi Arabia.

The presentation took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

Maryam, a student of Abubakar Siddiq Community School for Qur’anic Memorisation in Gombe, emerged overall winner in the second category of the 46th edition of the competition held in Makkah. She scored 97.70 marks in the section covering full memorisation of the Qur’an, recitation, Tajweed and interpretation.

Her victory marked the first time female contestants were admitted into the long-running competition. She had earlier won the female category of the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Maiduguri. Maryam is also a final-year Physics Education student at Gombe State University.

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya led a delegation that included Maryam’s parents and teachers to introduce her to the First Lady. Yahaya expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the educational support given to the young scholar.

The First Lady described Maryam as a source of pride to Nigerian women and the girl-child. She congratulated her for the achievement and for making the country proud in the field of faith and knowledge. Maryam’s elder sister had previously won a similar international Qur’anic competition in Jordan.
