Patience Ozokwor Shows Her Softer Side at 68
Nollywood veteran, Patience Ozokwor, popularly known to millions of fans as Mama G, marked her 68th birthday on Monday with a heartfelt message that offered a rare glimpse of the woman behind decades of fearsome on screen characters.
In a post shared on her social media page, the actress thanked God for granting her long life, good health, a sound mind and a deeper knowledge of Him, before turning her attention to the fans she affectionately calls her MamaG Lovers.
For an actress whose career has been built almost entirely on playing wicked mothers, domineering mothers in law and formidable matriarchs who strike fear into other characters on screen, the tone of her birthday message stood in sharp contrast. Ozokwor’s note carried none of the menace fans associate with her most famous roles, instead reading as warm, reflective and deeply grateful, a reminder that the persona she has spent more than two decades perfecting is far removed from who she is away from the camera.
Born on 14 September 1958 in Ngwo, Enugu State, Ozokwor began her journey in the entertainment industry as a broadcaster before moving into acting, eventually becoming one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood.
Her filmography stretches across hundreds of titles, including Chief Daddy, Chief Daddy 2: Going For Broke, Mother In Law and, most recently, Call Of My Life, released earlier this year. She has picked up recognition to match that body of work, including the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2023 and Best Supporting Actress honours at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
Beyond her screen credits, Ozokwor is known within the industry as a devoted mother and a committed woman of faith, qualities colleagues say reveal a gentler and more nurturing character than the ones audiences typically see her portray.
That duality has become part of her enduring appeal, with fans continuing to celebrate both the fearsome Mama G of Nollywood legend and the graceful, grateful woman who marked another year of life with a simple prayer of thanks.
Her birthday drew a wave of tributes from colleagues and admirers across social media, with many wishing her continued good health and many more years in an industry she has helped shape since the late 1990s.
