The Kwara State Police Command has provided financial assistance totalling ₦10.6 million to the families of 19 officers who lost their lives while serving the country.

The cheques, valued at ₦10,613,786.50, were presented on Monday at the command headquarters in Ilorin by the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The intervention is aimed at supporting the dependants of officers who died in the line of duty and forms part of welfare measures for families of deceased police personnel.

While presenting the cheques, Adekimi advised the beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, particularly towards the welfare and education of their families.

He acknowledged that the financial assistance could not replace the lives lost but said it reflected the police authorities’ recognition of the sacrifices made by the deceased officers and their concern for their families.

The commissioner also commended the Inspector-General of Police for continuing welfare initiatives targeted at supporting the dependants of personnel who died in service.

Speaking on behalf of the 19 beneficiaries, M.T. Moshood expressed appreciation to the police authorities for remembering the families of the deceased officers.

Moshood described the assistance as a significant gesture that showed that the families of officers who died while serving the nation had not been forgotten.
