Substitute, Carlos Espí scored in the first minute of added time as Real Madrid beat Elche 3-2 away in La Liga.

Madrid led 2-0 at half-time. Elche goalkeeper Matías Dituro put through his own net in the 25th minute. Kylian Mbappé made it 2-0 eight minutes later.

Elche came back after the break. Abiel Osorio scored in the 71st minute and Fernando Niño equalised in the 83rd. José Mourinho then sent on Espí, formerly of Levante. Mbappé led a counter-attack and Espí finished into an empty net in the 91st minute.

The result is Madrid’s third straight win across league and Europe. Elche remain without a league victory this season. Madrid stay in the chase behind the early leaders. Espí’s tap-in decided a night they had already let slip once.
