Medical drama series The Pitt has emerged as the most nominated programme at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, securing 25 nominations ahead of comedy series Hacks, which received 24.

Horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay is currently the biggest early winner, having claimed eight awards, mainly in technical categories, ahead of the main ceremony scheduled for Monday in Los Angeles.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California, with actress, Mariska Hargitay serving as host.

The Emmys, presented annually by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, recognise outstanding achievements in television and streaming productions across acting, writing, directing and production.

Widow’s Bay has 19 nominations overall, followed by Pluribus with 18 and Beef with 16.

In the Outstanding Drama Series category, The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, The Pitt, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbors are competing for the top prize.

The Outstanding Comedy Series nominees are Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking and Widow’s Bay.

For Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, the nominees are All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, Beef, DTF St. Louis and Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

In the drama acting categories, Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (Task), Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) and Noah Wyle (The Pitt) are nominated for Lead Actor.

The Lead Actress nominees are Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus) and Zendaya (Euphoria).

The comedy Lead Actor race features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man), Steve Carell (Rooster), Matthew Rhys (Widow’s Bay), Jason Segel (Shrinking) and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), while Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Elle Fanning, Lisa Kudrow and Jean Smart compete for Lead Actress.

The limited-series acting categories also feature notable names, including Riz Ahmed, Jason Bateman, Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac and Matthew Rhys among the Lead Actor nominees.

The Lead Actress nominees are Claire Danes, Sally Field, Carey Mulligan, Sarah Pidgeon and Sarah Snook.

The Pitt also earned multiple supporting acting nominations, including recognition for Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell and Katherine LaNasa.

Other prominent supporting nominees include Billy Crudup and Jack Lowden in drama; Colman Domingo, Harrison Ford, Michael Urie and Tyler James Williams in comedy; and David Harbour and Linda Cardellini in the limited or anthology series or movie categories.
