The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three women suspected of involvement in a child-stealing network and rescued three children in Ibafo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects are Kikelomo Jimoh, 36; Kayode Elizabeth; and Blessing Anochike, 60.

The arrests followed an intelligence-driven investigation into a reported child-stealing case. Detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Police Headquarters first arrested Jimoh, who allegedly provided information that led officers to Anochike’s residence, where the three children were found.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 11.

The rescued children were identified as Christiana Olowokere, 14; Olamilekan Abdurusheed, 16; and Adeniji Rebecca, 12.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that Christiana was allegedly sold for ₦500,000. Olamilekan, who had previously left his parents’ home, was allegedly abducted afterwards.

The circumstances surrounding Rebecca’s movement and how she came into the custody of the suspects are still being investigated.

The command said all three children had been rescued and were safe, while the suspects remained in police custody.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

According to the police, investigators will determine the full circumstances of the alleged offences, establish the roles played by each suspect and identify any other persons linked to the suspected criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the detectives for their swift response and investigative work.

Ojajuni said the command would continue its efforts to dismantle criminal networks targeting vulnerable people and urged parents, guardians, community leaders, schools, transport operators and residents to promptly report suspicious activities involving children.
