The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order an investigation into alleged cash transfers amounting to ₦78.8 billion reportedly flagged in a recent audit report.

The organisation expressed concern over claims that the funds were disbursed without adequate accountability measures and urged the government to ensure transparency in the management of public resources.

SERAP said allegations involving public funds should be thoroughly investigated to determine whether financial regulations were violated and whether the money was used for its intended purposes.

The group also called for the publication of details relating to the transactions and urged authorities to identify and prosecute any individuals found responsible for wrongdoing.

According to SERAP, accountability in public finance is essential for strengthening public trust, combating corruption and ensuring that government resources are used to improve the welfare of citizens.

The organisation maintained that findings contained in official audit reports should not be ignored, stressing that appropriate action is necessary whenever concerns are raised about the management of public funds.

SERAP further urged the Federal Government to recover any funds found to have been improperly disbursed and implement stronger safeguards to prevent future occurrences.

The call comes amid increasing scrutiny of government spending and growing demands from civil society organisations for greater transparency and accountability in public institutions.

The organisation reiterated that effective oversight and enforcement of financial regulations remain critical to promoting good governance and protecting public resources.

SERAP expressed hope that a transparent investigation would help clarify the issues raised and reinforce confidence in the country’s public financial management system.
