Eighteen business owners affected by the fire that destroyed Calabar Mall, popularly known as SPAR Mall, will each receive ₦25 million from the Federal Government. The total package amounts to ₦450 million.

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu disclosed the approval on Friday in Calabar. She said President Bola Tinubu authorised the intervention to help cushion the impact of the fire on the victims.

An additional ₦50 million was presented to the wife of the Cross River State Governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, to support women’s groups. Another ₦15 million was given to women who received the First Lady in the state, bringing the overall intervention to ₦515 million.

The fire, which broke out on August 22, affected several businesses and destroyed properties worth billions of naira. Many shop owners suffered heavy losses as a result of the incident.

Governor Bassey Otu thanked President Tinubu and the First Lady for the timely support. He said the relief would assist the affected entrepreneurs as they work to rebuild their businesses and livelihoods.
